Rainy Days Make Me Hungry

Well, it’s raining. It’s been rainy for awhile here in my small MA town. Not that it’s been constantly raining, but like… it’s been sunny in the morning and then rainy in the afternoon. And I mean downpouring, not just drizzling.

And for some reason, this makes me hungry. Maybe it’s because rainy days make me think of curling up on the couch with a book, movie or both with a snack.

I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow. Because tomorrow, dear friends, is this country’s birthday!!!! That’s right, it’s July 4, Independence Day. And I? I am stuck going on the boat (my family has a 38′ sailboat moored in Rockport) with the fam. I want to go to a cookout. Why? Well, the food’s better.

Nah, I’m just kidding. Well… no I’m not. But I don’t mind the sea, except for the fact that I get motion sickness. So we’ll have a day sail, go about 10 miles out. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Then my parents will sleep over on the boat because that sounds like fun to them. Boating life isn’t for me though, even for one night: everything gets damp, and I have to be in close quarters with my family. Can you see why I’m not a fan?

So… my sister and I get the house to ourselves tomorrow night if all goes well.

PARTY TIME!!!!

No, I’m kidding again. I won’t be having any wild parties, I don’t think. It would be fun though.

I think I might actually go do some writing though. Like, I love nothing more than sitting down and handwriting things. Yes, a computer is faster, but there’s something more… intimate about the whole experience of putting pen to paper.

OH! exciting news: my professor has a new novel coming out on Tuesday: Skin Deep by Gary Braver. Buy it. It sounds good :)

So basically, I have nothing better to do than update this blog, and I think I’m done with it now. Maybe I’ll pop on Phoenix Penna for a bit (you should too…it rocks!).

See you all later!

How many is all? Well, even if no one reads it, at least I wrote it :) .

Later~

My Plan to Escape to Mexico…

Ok, so… it kinda goes like this: I want to go to Mexico.

And the annoying thing is, I’d sooo have the opportunity to do so, because my parents (who own two Fitness Together franchies and one Elements Therapeutic Massage franchise you’rewelcomeforthefreeadvertising) have this BIG conference in November at a freaking FIVE STAR RESORT in Mexico. Problem? I can’t go!!!

Why? I have classes. Now, Let’s be honest. I’d be missing…four days of classes to go to this thing. That’s two times per class. My classes are not that hard. I get 3 free absences per semester for each one. I think I can manage going to Mexico.

Now to convince my parents… Because I really want to go. I mean, one: it’s MEXICO. two: it will be warm. three: my sister and cousin will both be going, and I love hanging out with them. four: I really want to go. five: I’m 18 and legal to drink in Mexico.

So yeah… now the only problem is convincing my parents. My mother, believe it or not, has not said ‘no’. She has said she’d think about it and ask my dad. The dad part is what worries me.

I think I should develop a plan. A smart plan.

Step 1: Convince the parents that it’s ok for me to go.

  • Explain to them the easy nature of my classes
  • Tell them about the three absence rule
  • Remind them that since I have no classes on Wednesday, I will only be missing four days, not five.
  • Let them know that Meg would probably be happy to have the room to herself for a week.

Step 2: Provide them with a ready-made plan to get them there and save them money.

  • offer to pay for flight (FAILED: said that I need to help pay for school first)
  • tell them they don’t have to buy me any Christmas/birthday presents for a few years
  • offer to work off the payment
  • Let them know that I’d be willing to hide in someone’s suitcase
  • I can fly out myself, taking a flight with multiple stops so it would be cheaper
  • I already have a passport, so no money wasted there.

Step 3: Inform them of the benefits of having me around.

  • We can spend family time together (awww)
  • I can keep an eye on my sister and cousin
  • I can speak Spanish to the employees for them.
  • I’m just so much damn fun!

Step 4: Make them like me enough so they’ll want to take me.

  • be extra polite.
  • do all my chores around the house and then some
  • gives lotsssss of compliments.

Step 5: BEG. BEG. BEG.

  • get down on my hands and knees.
  • just… BEG.

Ok, so there’s my wonderful plan to escape to Mexico with the fam… Now, who thinks it’ll work? *looks around hopefully*

I do, I do!

Welcome Aboard!

So, welcome to Writing in Color… a place to fulfill all your random reading needs!

Truth be told, I’m not sure what I’m going to use this for yet. It might be a place to vent, to rejoice, to share my obsessions, to showcase my writing, to make friends, to laugh, to cry, to ramble, to inspire…

Basically, you never know what you’re going to get, and that’s what makes it great!

But first I suppose I should tell you about myself:

You guys can call me Lynx for the sake of anonymity. I usually get people asking me if this is my real name, which, though it would be cool, it is not. It’s just my most frequent online alias.

I’m 18 years old, and I attend college in Boston, Massachusetts where I’m going to soon be declaring an English major and a French minor. I’m undecided about the Music Industry minor.

My life revolves around words and music, and most often a combination of the two (it’s a rare occasion to see me writing without a song to inspire me or fit the situation).

I’m halfway through my first “serious” novel, though I’ve got countless stories (most of which were written during my early teen years and, to be perfectly honest, fanfictions about my favorite celebrities). I’ve attempted novel-writing before, but I never found “the” subject…the one I could sink my teeth into and really just make the most of.

…until now.

So hopefully that one will get finished soon (if my laptop ever gets fixed… it’s broken, so I’m on a different computer at the moment, actually). My poor Chamomile Flower (oh…I tend to name inanimate objects, and Chamomile Flower just happens to be the name of my Sony Vaio after some random morning at 2 am when I decided it would be a good idea).

But I plan on posting here a lot, so I’m sure those of you who read will be able to get a good idea of my personality pretty quickly. You’ll learn I’m obsessed with penguins (and this started a year before March of the Penguins, so I consider myself that trendsetter, thank you very much :P ), and the two stuffed animals lying on my bed are named Zipper and Humphrey.

My pride, joy and baby is my cat Nala, a 13-year-old American Shorthair. I’ll link to/post pictures later…I promise. I have way too many not to share! Though her sister, Sarafina, passed away two years ago, she still finds company with our other cat, the 11-year-old Obsidian (she’s all black, like the rock for which she is named).

I live in the dorms during the school semesters but at home during the summer, so right now I’m in the house with my mother, father, younger sister, three dogs (theirs, not mine) and two cats (mine, not theirs). Not that I don’t love the dogs (Kira, a 7-year-old husky mix; Tally, a 1-year-old boxer; and Atticus, a 9-month-old doberman), but they make life on the cats a little difficult.

Anyways, looking forward to getting this started up! I have to head off right now, so to anyone who’s actually reading, bye!

~Lynx
